Background&Purpose: Glutamine is one of the most abundant free amino acids in human plasma then oral supplementation of L-glutamine improves blood sugar. The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of short-term glutamine supplementation on Vo2max and capillary blood lactate during recovery after maximum exercise in boys’ athlete.
Materials and Methods: 12 subjects with age mean 21±1.414 years, weight mean 67.83±5.967 kg, height mean 175.25±2.80 cm and BMI 22.02±1.644 and BF% 18.57±4.262, were selected randomly and participated in three separated sessions in Bruce Test. Each subject received placebo in the first session and Glutamine supplementation in the second and third ones, respectively, 0.3 and 0.6 grams per kilogram of body weight. Then, basal blood lactate levels and heart rate and blood pressure were measured respectively before, immediately and 1 hour after the end of test data were analyzed by ANOVA with repeated Measures at p≤0.05 significant level..
Results: The analysis of data indicated that short-term consumption of glutamine supplementation with different doses has a significant effect on capillary blood lactate and Vo2max during recovery after maximum exercise (p≤0/001).
Conclusions: Effect of glutamine supplementation increases on VO2max. Blood lactate decreased during recovery after maximum exercise. Hence, Short-term consumption of glutamine supplementation with different doses is recommended to enhance athletes’ performance.
