Abstract

Background and Purpose:Severe and long physical activity especially in a hot and humid environment produces reactiveoxygenspecies. The aim of this study was to determine the use of two weeks coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) supplementation and pre-cooling strategy on serum oxidative stress (MDA), total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and body core temperature (Tc) indices during recording in elite swimmers.
Methodology:Thirty-two healthy male were randomly divided into four equal groups including supplementation, supplementation with pre-cooling, pre-cooling and placebo. All subjects were participated in 18 session’s protocol with speed and endurance swim workouts, a distance of 5 Km per session. Sampling were immediately obtained before first recording and before and after second recording. ANCOVA and Repeated measurement tests and Paired T-Testwere used for data statistical analysis (α= 0.05).
Results: The results showed that there was no significant statistical difference between MDA, TAC and Tc indices in the first stage among four groups (P>0.05). But there was a significant statistical difference for indices in the second and third stages (P˂0.05).
Conclusion: CoQ10 supplementation increases serum total antioxidant capacity and adverse changes swimmer’s malondialdehyde and Tc during drills and recording. Meanwhile, these results were no observed for the precooling but could reduce Tc.
