Abstract

Introduction: Lifestyle changes, especially exercise training may be effective on renal function and cardiovascular risk factors reduction in renal transplant recipients; however this is not well known. The aim of present study was to examine the effect of eight weeks aerobic training on renal function and cardiovascular risk factors in renal transplant recipients’ women.
Materials and Methods: Twenty transplant recipients aged 20 to 30 years were randomly assigned to one of the training (n = 10) or control (n = 10) group based on their aerobic fitness. Training group was performed 30 min aerobic training per session with 60 – 75% of their maximum heart rate, 3 days a week for 8 weeks. The subjects in the control group were instructed not to change their physical activity. Body composition, cardiovascular risk factors and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) were measured before and after the intervention.
Results: The results demonstrated that TG (P = 0.001), LDL (P = 0.04) and systolic blood pressure (SBP) (P = 0.002) were decreased after 8 weeks training in the transplant recipients (PConclusion: In conclusion, it seems that aerobic training caused an improvement in cardiovascular risk factors in women with renal transplant recipients but it had not significant effect on their GFR. Additional research is needed in this topic.
