Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this research was to study and determine barriers to physical activity among female subjects from Sabzevar. Methodology: a researcher-made questionnaire was designed. The validity of the questionnaire was checked and verified by other professors and coaches. The reliability of the questionnaire was assessed by Cronbach Alpha, r = 0.81. The samples of this research were 420 available female subjects reachable in different areas in Sabzevar City. Results: The descriptive data indicated that only 11.3 % of the subjects exercised over 3 hours per week. 23.5 % of the subjects exercised at home. The most important barriers to orderly physical activity included giving priority to other activities at free time (43.7 %), lack of an exercise partner (31 %), lack of time (29.6 %), boredom and laziness (29.4 %), high gym registration fees (26.4 %), lack of training habits (26.4 %), lack of suitable and special gyms for females (25.9 %), and lack of qualified coaches (24.8 %). Discussion: Based on the results obtained, the researchers conclude that giving priority to other activities at free time, lacking an exercise partner, lacking time, boredom and laziness are the most important barriers to female physical activity.
