Physiological Profile Of Iranian Senior Greco-Roman Style Wrestlers

Abstract

In order to make a physiological profile for senior Iranian Greco-Roman style wrestlers, 71 wrestlers  (aged 22.7+2.3 years, body weight 81.5+20.2 Kg), who were invited to the national training camps for a year,  were tested on body composition  (3-sites skin fold, LBM, BMI), relative strength  (hand grip, bench press, squat, dead lift), muscle endurance  (sitـ ups, push – ups, pull – ups),Vo2 max  (Bruce test), speed  (36 m running ), agility  (4 9 m running ), flexibility  (sit and reach, trunk extension, shoulder flexibility), reaction time  (bilateral), alactic anaerobic power  (ergo jump 15s, arm Wingate 8s, leg Wingate 8s), lactic anaerobic power  (ergo Jump 30s).
Major results  ( mean + SD) are as  follows: BF% =11.3+ 3.8, LMB = 71.8+ 15.5 Kg, BMI = 26.9+ 4 Kg/m2, hand grip = 0.91 + 0.13 W/N, bench press = 1.42 + 0.18 W/Kg, squat = 1.76+0.22 W/Kg, dead lift = 1.9+ 0.18 W/Kg, sit-ups = 71.3+7.1n/min, pull-ups=33.6+11n, push – ups =68+ 8.7 n, Vo2 max = 50.4+5.4 ml.Kg-1.min-1, 36m running =5.13+0.21 s, 49 m running = 9+0.42 s, sit and reach = 39.3+ 5.9cm, trunk extension = 0.67+0.1 cm/cm, shoulder flexibility=0.60+0.1 cm/cm, bilateral reaction time=397+66.6 ms, ergo jump 15s=45.45+6.5 W.Kg-1, arm Wingate 8s=414.6+109.2 w, leg  Wingate 8s=475+89.4 w, ergo jump 30s=40.9+5.9 w.Kg-1. After data gathering, descriptive statistics were used for providing a profile for the above – mentioned tests by SPSS and EXCEL. Generally, results showed that Iranian Greco-Roman style wrestlers have a good physiological profile like many of their opponents from other countries.
