A study of validity and reliability of non- exercise test & Gas analysis system to estimate of V02max

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity and reliability of Houston non- exercise test & gas analysis system for estimating vo2max in female basketball players. For this reason, 30 female basketball players aged 16-29 years who experienced in super league competition in Tehran were selected.
For estimating vo2max by using gas analysis system, subject were invited to physical fitness assessment center of national Olympic academy and their vo2max were measured by gas analysis system with Brouce protocol on the treadmill .Moreover ,   Houston non-exercise test included variables such as: age, body fat percent, physical activity rate (par) ,and body mass index. There are two methods to estimate vo2max from Houston non-exercise test. One method measured body fat percent (%BF) and second method measured body mass index. The subject's body fat percent was measured by skinfold method with caliper and the body mass index was measured by body mass analyzer system (in body). To determine physical activity rate of subject questionnaire were developed and distributed among subjects. Then the intended variables were put in equation of Houston non-exercise test, and estimated of vo2max and the subject's vo2max was predicted in an in direct way. The methodology of this research is based on correlation method .the data of this research were analyzed in two levels of descriptive statistics and in the level of inferential statistics (Pearson correlation)
The result of this study showed that:  there was a significant relationship between vo2max obtained from non-exercise test and gas analysis system. (R=0.76, SEE= 3.75, P=0.00)
Moreover, the result of the study proved the reliability vo2max obtained from non -exercise test. (R=0.96, P=0.00)
